Horniman Museum & Gardens
Exhibit & Marketing Graphics
Brief
I was commissioned to create graphics for the opening tropical Butterfly House - a living link to the many butterfly and moth specimens in the Natural History collections. The illustrations convey the colour and environment of the specially planted indoor garden walk-through, with hundreds of free-flying butterflies, where visitors can observe their life cycle in the puparium, as well as learn about butterflies and their conservation.
A well loved and family friendly museum with gardens in South London, the Horniman Museum opened in 1901 and its’ extensive displays of natural history, aquarium, anthropology and musical instruments attracts over 700 thousand annual visitors. In 2022 it was awarded Art Fund Museum of the Year.

Design
An illustrated route was required by the Horniman’s Marketing team, partly as the exhibit was still under construction and photography unavailable for launch-ready promotional graphics. Having presented three different illustrative routes, a clean, vector-based approach in daytime sunny colours was selected and developed into digital and print marketing materials. From the illustrations, graphic layouts for banners, flyers, on-screen assets, posters and the permanent building exterior were created.

Client Feedback

I enjoyed working with Izabelle on the marketing design for our new Butterfly House. She responded to the brief very thoughtfully and creatively, and the final design has been a great success.
