An SME business owned by Sophie Townsend, MeadowSweet® sends out beautiful, locally grown & sourced flowers throughout the mainland UK.

Delivering to customers seasonal, scented and unusual native or heritage flowers, some grown in Sophie’s own cutting garden in Bournemouth, the ‘MeadowSweet’ name reflects the natural ethos of the business. In connecting customers with nature and celebrating the diversity and seasonality of the locally-grown, the brand logotype is accompanied by the straplines ‘Love living with flowers’ and ‘Let nature in’.

Izabelle May was commissioned to create a visual brand presence for the growing business since its’ beginning, from early start-up days to an established business of ten years trading as an award-winning sustainable company.

Design

Calligraphic hand-drawn letterforms by Izabelle formed the bases of the initial logotype, which was recreated digitally to make a scaleable vector-based graphic.

A bespoke silhouette of meadow flowers and pollinating insects, using a sage green colour palette became the backbone of the brand’s visual identity.

From these brand elements, a suite of graphics for different stages of the business’ growth was developed - early digital assets for online presence, pop-up banners for trade events, business cards, flyers as well as packaging for the flower posies and bouquets, including ribbons, pouch holders and box packaging.

A continual focus on sustainability and carefully sourced print supplies, from 100% recycled paper stock, biofilm stickers, to re-use of glass bottles and recycled substrates for the brand output all helps to create brand integrity. British flowers have been found to have a 90% lower carbon footprint than imported air-freighted blooms, and in 2023, MeadowSweet was proud to be awarded the Winner in the category of ‘SME Sustainability Journey’ at the Big Sustainability Awards, run by the Southern Sustainability Partnership.
